Exploring Project Loom in Java: A Guide to Virtual Threads

Java has always been great for building apps that need to handle many tasks at once. But there was always one problem — creating too many threads could slow down your app. That’s where Project Loom comes in. It brings something called “virtual threads” to Java, making it much easier to write fast programs.

What is Project Loom?

Project Loom is a big update to Java that makes handling multiple tasks much better. Think of it like having a super smart helper that can juggle thousands of tasks without getting tired. The main goal is to make Java apps faster and easier to write when dealing with many things happening at the same time.

Before Loom, if your Java app needed to handle 10,000 users at once, you would face serious problems. Creating 10,000 regular threads would use too much memory and slow down your computer. Project Loom solves this problem.

What Are Virtual Threads?

Virtual threads are like lightweight threads. While regular threads are heavy and use lots of memory, virtual threads are super light. You can create millions of them without worrying about memory problems.
