Understanding the Problem:

Before we dive into the Optional class, let’s first understand the problem it aims to solve. In Java, null is often used to represent the absence of a value. However, accessing or performing operations on a null object can lead to unexpected errors. Consider the following code snippet:

String name = getNameFromDatabase();
int length = name.length(); // NullPointerException if name is null

If getNameFromDatabase() returns null, invoking the length() method on the name variable will result in a NullPointerException. To avoid such issues, developers often write additional null checks, cluttering the codebase and making it harder to read and maintain.
